The China Game Industry Research Institute has published its research report for the Chinese gaming industry between January and June 2020 during the annual China Digital technology Expo and Conference (ChinaJoy) in Shanghai.
According to the report, the Chinese eSports industry has grown rapidly. In the first half of 2020, the country registered 484 million eSport users, up 9.94%. For the year, the industry has generated revenues in the eSports games market of 71,9 billion yen (10,3 milliards dollars), reflecting a huge increase of about 55% over the same year as in 2019.
China’s gaming industry recorded 660 million gaming users and generated a revenue of ￥139 billion ($20 billion) in the market in the period, an increase of 22% compared to the same period in 2019.
The reports further reveal that mobile games played a leading role in the Chinese gaming industry, producing revenue of 104,6 billion yen (15 billion dollars), which accounted for 75.04% of total profits. While, 20.18% of market share was taken in PC games, and 2.87% in online games.
Finally, China has accelerated its growth in the cloud gaming sector due to large investments in big data, artificial intelligence, and 5G. Between January and June, the Chinese cloud gaming market reported revenue of 400 million yen (57.5 million dollars) up 79%.
