France and Paris Saint-Germain superstar Kylian Mbappe has been revealed as FIFA 21 cover star.
The 21-year-old World Cup winner becomes the latest player in a string of huge footballing names to grace the cover of the popular video game.
Mbappe succeeds Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk and Real Madrid forward Eden Hazard, who were the cover stars of FIFA 20, while the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, Ronaldinho, and Wayne Rooney have all had the honour in the past.
The France striker will be the cover star on the Standard, Champions and Legends Editions of FIFA 21, which is scheduled to be released on 9 October.
Furthermore, EA says that if you buy FIFA 21 on Xbox One at any time before the release of the next game in the series, you’ll get a free upgrade to FIFA 21 on Xbox Series X.
Reflecting on being revealed as the FIFA 21 cover star, Mbappe said: “Being on the cover of FIFA is a dream come true. From my time at Bondy to Clairefontaine to the World Cup, this marks another big milestone.
“I’ve been playing this game since I was a kid and I am honoured to represent a whole new generation of footballers and be in the same group as many other amazing footballers who I now share this honour with.”
And explaining the decision to choose Mbappe as the franchise’s next cover star, EA Sports executive vice president and group general manager Cam Weber added: “ As our FIFA franchise accelerates towards the next generation of player experience, we know our cover athlete needs to truly embody both the future of our game and the future of football as a whole.
FIFA 21 will have the Spanish LaLiga exclusively thanks to the fact that EA has renewed the license. In this way, Real Madrid, FC Barcelona, Athletic Bilbao, Real Sociedad, and the other LaLiga teams will continue to be present in the Electronic Arts saga.
