Egypt won one and drew one in Matchday 5 and 6 of the VPG AFCON 2020 tournament to ensure that they finished top of Group B with an unbeaten record.
The team went into the final round of fixtures boasting of 3 wins and a draw out of four matches and they maintained their unbeaten run as both Angola and Ivory Coast fail to defeat them. Egypt defeated Angola 2-1 in Matchday 5 and then drew 1-1 with Ivory Coast in Matchday 6 to top Group B.
They will now seek to maintain the unbeaten record in the quarterfinals when they come up against the runners up of Group A, Senegal.
Although Egypt was the only country to go unbeaten, it was Morocco, Tunisia and Mozambique who secured the highest number of points from the group stages of the VPG AFCON 2020 tournament, with all three teams winning 5 and losing 1 game.
VPG AFCON 2020 final round of fixtures
The final round of matches for the VPG AFCON 2020 tournament was played on Sunday and had 8 teams qualifying from their groups into the quarter-finals of the competition.
In Group A, Senegal and Libya booked their place to the quarterfinals after amassing 13 points each. This means that Ghana who won just 2 out of matches have been knocked out of the competition alongside Sudan who won just 1 out of 6 matches.
In Group B, Egypt emerged as winners of the group with 14 points and was only followed by Cameroon with 8 points while Ivory Coast and Angola crashed out of the tournament with 6 and 4 points respectively.
Morocco and South Africa have also secured a place in the next round of the tournament after amassing 15 and 13 points respectively. Their qualification means there are no places for Algeria and Gabon who exit the tournament with 4 and 2 points respectively.
In the last group, Tunisia and Mozambique both qualified with 15 points each after winning 5 out of six games. Nigeria and Zimbabwe will thus not be represented in the quarter-finals of the VPG AFCON 2020 tournament.

The quarter-finals pairing has also been made with Group A winners, Libya going head to head with Cameroon while their Group A counterpart, Senegal will be looking to end the unbeaten run of Egypt when they meet. The date for the quarter-final matches is yet to be announced.
